As the group creates, the world is being reshaped and the sense of self is being reshaped too. “Did I do this?”, “look what I have done!”, “no way I made this”, “I didn’t expect I could have created something like this”. None of these phrases refer only to the creative process.
What does clay teaches us?
Clay teaches us the intuitive touch, the “transcription” of ideas or emotions (or both) through the hands upon the wet earth, the ability to create a whole “universe”, the unexpected – even if the latter is a creative accident.
Clay teaches us patience, the skill of transformation, the interaction between “fire” and “water”, expression as practice and playfulness.
This already a lot.
